Summer's Here with a New Playlist

Makoom's MenagerieRecently, I decided that I wanted to do a better job sharing the music that I play in my shows, on Makoom's Menagerie, and listen to. What a better way to do this than a Spotify Playlist. I am curating a ton of my favorite trance, progressive, techno, uplifting, and all around dance sounds in this evolving playlist to showcase tracks that have really caught my eye or are playing well in my live performances. If you like the music that I share, give this playlist a follow and I'm sure you'll have tons of ear worms to listen to in the car, at the gym, or around the house! If there are any specific tracks that you think would fit well in my new playlist, please shoot me a message or email and I'll give them a listen.

Tip of the Month: Making Risers Original

Sometimes a preset is the way to go, but there are some cool things that you can do to really make them your own.

  1. One way that I love to tweak risers is by changing the type of oscillator that is making the sound. Whatever type of sound wave they have initially, I’ll experiment and try to find a different sound that fits the vibe I’m trying to create. I’ve taken a preset that used a saw wave and used a square instead to get that signature square sound.

  2. Another way that I’ll really make a riser my own is through the use of a modulation plugin like a tremolo or flanger. I’ll put one on top, turn the dry/wet to 0% and bring it in near the end of the build to really enhance the riser’s effect. This is a simple way to make that riser more unique and exciting for the crowd.

  3. Finally, I’ll experiment in Serum with different kinds of oscillator modulation. I recently made a riser with an FM from oscillator B modulation that I increase the wet on near the end of the build to make a truly unique and tension creating sound! Feel free to experiment because making unique sounds is what separates you from others and if it sounds good, it probably is.

MelodicBEATZ was absolutely the event that we hoped for. We had a great turnout at The Oven and people really brought the energy. DJ:TBD, ZZGO, and Eastty all brought some amazing sound choices and I really enjoyed seeing the crowds response to a lot of my unreleased music. We are already in the discussions to host another event soon and I can’t wait to share more great Austin artists with everyone!
