Summer is in full swing and I have a lot of gigs coming up. This coming Saturday, July 12th, I'm making my debut in San Antonio and would love to make new friends with people who are as passionate about music as I am. I also have a gig in Austin on the 25th that I'm announcing soon and there are two others that I can't share all the details on, but I'm really excited about! If you've enjoyed my recent Menageries and teasers on Instagram, come out and join us, we would love to have you! Sharing my music is a blast and I really appreciate everyone who attends and brings the energy.

Tip of the Month: Making Fun Mid-Basses

This month’s tip is all about making a mid-bass that grooves:

  1. Once you have a great kick drum and a simple pluck melody, if you’re struggling with what to do next, I’d recommend finding a groove for your track.

  2. I love using Splice to find great samples that match the vibe with the track I’m working on. One or two of my percussion loops are always a complimentary groove. I’ll search until I find a groove that I like and then put it in my track with some simple EQ and a reverb.

  3. Next, I find what part of the groove is the hook that really draws me in. It will have some sort of pattern to it. I’ll open a fresh mid-bass patch and make a pattern in the MIDI that mirrors the groove or compliments it. Suddenly, I made a mid-bass groove that sounds great with the percussions that I threw into my track and it takes way less time than building a mid-bass groove from scratch. This lets you focus more on designing a great patch for your sound and other parts of your track!

Photo of the Month

My wife and I joined some friends on a trip to Mexico City for the first time and we were blown away. The people demonstrated true kindness and respect, we had some amazing food, and partook in some wonderful experiences. I never thought I would get to watch the sunrise in a hot air balloon over ancient ruins, but now I can say I checked that off my bucket list. It was really inspiring to see this beautiful culture and make some amazing memories with people I love. If you’ve ever thought about going to Mexico City, I definitely recommend it!

Mexico City was BEAUTIFUL!
