Makoom in EP Form
Makoom's Menagerie
2025 is off to a roaring start and I’m excited to say that the 21st of this month marks the release of my first ever EP on Blue Soho’s Vital Imprint.
The ‘All I See’ EP comes with two original tracks and two phenomenal remixes. ‘All I See’ is a great combination between tech and uplifting trance that features a dark and dirty groove with some soaring melodies. The B Side, ‘Impact Driver,’ is a darker track with a focus on the first instrument I learned to play, the Viola. It feature some twists and surprises that will make an impact on the dance floor. The two remixes are both of ‘Impact Driver.’ One hails from Scandinavia where Northern Project put their signature progressive take on ‘Impact Driver’ that I know I’ll love playing in my more downtempo sets. Visa Seppanen provides a beautiful uplifting take on the track in the final record of this far ranging EP. I am extremely happy with this body of work and excited to hear what everyone thinks! They’re available for pre-save and pre-order on the 14th of February, secure your copy and happy listening.

Makoom’s Menagerie
This month’s Menagerie is going to focus on the energy of my new EP. With that said, it will include both the original mixes from the EP and tons of other high tempo trance tracks that I have enjoyed recently. It is coming later this month and I am excited to hear what y’all think about this high octane episode!

Tip of the Month: Backspin Transition
This month’s tip is for my DJs! We’re going to talk about the unique and exciting backspin transition. This transition is relatively easy to master once you know how to perform it and gives you a great way to inject some unique tension into a really high energy track changeover.
Begin mixing like normal between your outgoing and incoming track. The outgoing track is where you will perform the backspin and I recommend making sure the Jog Adjust is as light as possible to help you spin the deck. Additionally, you will want either a 35% reverb or 1/2 note echo effect with the low end disabled ready for the outgoing deck.
Continue mixing between the outgoing and incoming. Bring in the incoming track to full volume with the outgoing track with no bass and about 2/3 to 3/4 quarter volume on the fader.
Begin introducing your reverb or echo effect with four to six measures until you want to make the transition.
By the last measure before your transition, ensure that you have the effect to 1/3 or 1/2 intensity on the Efx knob. At the beginning of the last measure spin the platter on the outgoing deck to create a backspin effect. Because of your volume tweaks, it won’t overpower the mix and will ratchet up the transition in the last measure before the incoming track drops.
Lower the fader on the going track to 0 before the last measure is over to let the incoming track drop and maintain the energy.

Playing the WOMM: Edge show with No Light Thing and loads of other talented Austin DJs was a blast. I played a main room set with a dash of melodic and progressive trance fitting the TOATs club. It was really awesome playing a lot of my new IDs and seeing the crowd respond well to them. I have a few upcoming dates that will get announced soon and hope to see each and every one of y’all on a dance floor soon!
