It's Raining Shirts

Makoom's Menagerie

I’m excited to say that the latest line of Makoom Merchandise has arrived. We have a drop of shirts in three great colors. Natural (pictured below), Carolina Blue (think powder blue), and Jade (think pine green). Each of these shirts combines style and Makoom to create a shirt that you can wear whether you’re seeing me perform or not. They’re extremely comfortable and great for that day into night party kind of vibe! They’re $35 a piece and if you’d like to secure one before they’re gone, shoot me a message or email!

Tonight [Red Soho]

My latest release ‘Tonight’ came out April 4th, on Blue Soho’s Red Soho imprint. This progressive trance song is a homage to the beginning of the night. It has a great dancing groove, simple vocal hook, and sweeping melodies that remind me of that feeling you get when you step into the club. Check out the link below to give this track a listen and let me know what you think!

A new episode of Makoom’s Menagerie is coming soon and I promise I’ll include a play of my ‘Welcome to the DCC’ Bootleg and my latest single ‘Tonight.’ Don’t miss it!

Tip of the Month: Mashups

This month’s tip is a little more philosophical in nature. I’m talking about why I think mashups are extremely important for every DJ to master. There’s a saying about mashups that ‘1+1=3’ and I think that puts it perfectly. They are a way for you to take at least two tracks and combine their elements to cross genres, repurpose an old vocal, or breath life into one of your old records. I really like crossing genres when I make mashups. I enjoy using vocals from progressive house or big room that are extremely popular on an instrumental trance track to really get the crowd going. Mashups help you as a DJ/Producer put a unique spin on another artist’s track and make it your own even though you didn’t produce it. For those of you who are DJs but not producers, they are the first way to start learning how to produce (this helped me understand my DAW). Generally, my mashups share key or are complimentary on the Camelot Wheel. This ensures that the vocals sound good with the instrumentals or the blend between two instrumentals doesn’t clash to the listeners’ ear. Importantly, mashups also help you learn how to experiment as an artist and make your live performance extra special for the listener. Don’t be afraid to experiment in the studio or on the decks.

If you come up with an awesome mashup, I’d love to hear it, and I’ll send you one of my own to use as well!!

Ultra was an awesome experience. The first time I went, I was only first beginning to DJ. It was a much different experience going this time as a producer. I felt like I understood the effort that these artists put to really pour their heart out for their fans. I also got some great inspiration for tracks that I am already working on! I can’t wait to share what I create with everyone and hope to see all of you soon.
