Feel the Tension
Makoom's Menagerie
It’s Spooky Season and I’m back with a release fitting the month. Tension is out on Futurising Music and it has that gritty Makoom flavor that is essential to my music. I wanted to start experimenting with more techno influenced trance and found a perfect vocal fitting the mood of this track. I worked on all the elements and was able to secure a release on Futurising Music which is regularly featured on Armin’s radio show ASOT! I encourage you to check it out wherever you get your music and turn it up whenever you find yourself in need of some energy.

Join Me at the Tunn3l
This coming Saturday, October 18th, I’m part of a Halloween themed event at the famous tunnels in Austin, TX. RSVP at the link below and come rage with us. Catch me at 12am playing some music that’ll get you in the mood for a sweaty, dungeon that harkens back to the roots of dance music!
Fallin’ Deep [Azure Recordings]
On the other side of the Makoom coin, you can still listen to my track Fallin’ Deep. This one is for those like dreamy vibes and real journeys. It is an instrumental part of the tapestry of my set and I have received a lot of positive feedback from everyone about it.

Tip of the Month: Editing Tracks for Your Sets
I’m getting more philosophical for this month’s tip. I want to talk about how you build your musical library for a DJ Set. One of the best analogies I ever received was from Roger Sanchez and he said ‘preparing for a DJ set is like preparing for battle.’ He didn’t mean it in the sense that you went to fight the crowd. He wanted DJs to understand that the majority of the preparation for a successful set goes into the work that no one ever sees. Practicing your transitions, how you want to cut your tracks to build energy and really work with the crowd. Anytime I want to put a track on my playlists, I will load it up in Rekordbox and find the unique ways that I want to introduce the song, play certain parts of it, and transition out of it. I will use my hot cues in these spaces that way I’ve already done work to prepare and ensure that I’m ready at a club. I will often practice playing a track in unique ways to ensure that it fits in my set/playlist and sounds great. Practice makes perfect and you really need to practice this to avoid sounding like a Spotify playlist!

I love cooking. This is a homemade bolognese sauce that I have worked hard to perfect over some time now. I find it really easy to chill while making a nice meal and then I get to enjoy the results! It’s also a great way to listen to new music, take it in, and hear how some of my new ideas sound on different sound systems. Do you have anything that helps you to chill out? Let me know, maybe I’ll try it!

Yummy!
